ISLAMABAD: Delegations from Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states began arriving in Islamabad on Saturday for a ministerial conference on women's empowerment.
The 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women runs July 12 to July 13, Pakistan's Ministry of Human Rights announced in a press release. The event brings together ministers responsible for women and family affairs, senior government officials and OIC institution representatives.
The conference theme is "Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward."
Pakistan's Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik greeted incoming delegations at Islamabad International Airport, according to the ministry. Parliamentary Secretaries Saba Sadiq and Farah Naz Akbar also received delegates.
Pakistan's Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar will chair the conference.
Participating delegations will review progress on women's empowerment, exchange best practices and identify strategies to advance women's economic, political and social rights across member states, the ministry said.
Pakistan hosts the conference as part of its commitment to OIC objectives and cooperation among member states on women's rights.
