ISLAMABAD: Islam Makhachev retained the UFC welterweight title Saturday, defeating Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision to earn his 17th consecutive UFC victory, according to UFC results.
The judges scored the five-round fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 for Makhachev, as per the official scorecards. The victory moved Makhachev past Anderson Silva for the longest winning streak in UFC history.
Makhachev improved to 29-1 overall and 18-1 in the UFC. Machado Garry fell to 17-2.
Machado Garry, the number 3-ranked welterweight contender, defended several of Makhachev's takedown attempts and landed 29 of 65 significant strikes, as per UFC statistics. Makhachev landed 22 of 44 significant strikes and completed seven of 15 takedown attempts.
Makhachev recorded the fight's only knockdown in the second round. He also controlled the fight on the ground for 12 minutes and 30 seconds, compared with 34 seconds for Machado Garry.
The victory made Makhachev the fifth fighter in UFC history to win titles in two weight classes, joining Henry Cejudo, Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones and Amanda Nunes.
In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern retained the women's strawweight title with a unanimous decision over Gillian Robertson. The judges scored the fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 for Dern.
UFC 330 was held at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, United States.
