ISLAMABAD: The Indian Opposition, while calling the recent US Congressional report a “severe setback” to the country’s diplomacy, has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on it.

A report submitted to the US Congress by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission has highlighted what it describes as the Pakistan military’s “success” during its four-day clash with India, crediting the outcome to the deployment of modern Chinese weaponry.

The commission, mandated to assess the national security implications of US-China trade and economic ties, delivered its findings to Congress on Tuesday.

According to the document, “Pakistan’s military success over India in its four-day clash showcased Chinese weaponry,” with Beijing’s latest air-defense and fighter systems seeing combat use for the first time.

Modi’s ‘silence’ questioned

Dr Shama Mohamed, national spokesperson of the Indian National Congress (INC), in a post on X on Thursday, wrote: “The annual report submitted to the ‘US Congress by the US China Economic and Security Review Commission’ has mentioned Pakistan’s military success over India during a four day clash. Why is Prime Minister @narendramodi silent on this? He must tell his friends that the report submitted to the US Congress is factually wrong.”

MP Jairam Ramesh in his post on X on Thursday said the US report, “speaks of ‘Pakistan's military success over India’ in the four-day clash.”

‘Another severe setback’

He said: “President Trump has claimed 60 times (so far) that he had halted Operation Sindoor. The PM has kept completely quiet.”

“Now comes this report of the US-China Economic and Security Commission of the US Congress that is simply unacceptable to India. Will the PM and the MEA register their objections and protest? Our diplomacy has suffered yet another severe setback,” Ramesh said.

Pakistan PM praises US report

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday praised a recent report submitted to the US Congress that credited Pakistan with “military success” in its four-day clash with India, saying the document had “validated Pakistan’s strength” and the performance of its armed forces.

“This report has stamped confirmation on what our brave soldiers achieved,” he told a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a Daanish School in Azad Kashmir’s Harri Ghel.

Sharif said the congressional findings, which highlighted Pakistan’s use of modern defense systems during the confrontation, reflected the “professional excellence” of the country’s forces.

“Our soldiers and our pilots earned Pakistan respect on the world stage,” he said, adding that decisions taken by the country’s civil and military leadership were “fearless and timely.”
