ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Saturday reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness in Balochistan, reaffirming the state’s focus on peace, development and economic activity in the province.
The visit to Quetta Garrison came on the eve of Pakistan’s Defense Day, when the country commemorates the sacrifices of its armed forces and their role in defending the country.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the field marshal was briefed on the prevailing security environment, operational preparedness and measures being taken to maintain peace and stability across Balochistan.
The briefing also covered institutional coordination and support for the province’s socio-economic development, the military’s media wing said.
The visit comes as security forces continue intelligence-based counterterrorism operations against terrorist networks in Balochistan.
In August, security forces killed 37 terrorists in 10 intelligence-based operations across Mastung, Mach, Khuzdar and Panjgur districts, according to ISPR. The operations were conducted in coordination with police and were part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under the government-approved Azm-e-Istehkam framework.
Earlier that month, security forces also killed 12 terrorists in separate intelligence-based operations in Washuk and Mastung, with ISPR saying the operations targeted Fitna Al-Hindustan networks.
CDF Munir praised the professionalism, operational readiness and commitment of troops deployed across the province.
He also underscored the need for continued coordination among law-enforcement agencies and other state institutions to consolidate peace and create an environment conducive to sustained economic activity and development.
“The peace, prosperity and well-being of the people of Balochistan remain central to the efforts of the state,” the army chief said, according to ISPR.
He stressed that a stable and secure environment would continue to facilitate development initiatives, economic opportunities and improved prospects for the people of the province.
The army chief also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs and praised officers and troops for their steadfast commitment to their duties.
The ISPR said CDF Munir was received by the Commander Quetta Corps upon arrival at Quetta Garrison.
