ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States discussed ways to strengthen cooperation against terrorist threats during the fourth round of Pakistan-US Counterterrorism Dialogue in Washington, DC, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a post on Wednesday.

According to the official statement, the talks were held on August 4. They were co-chaired by US Coordinator for Counterterrorism Ambassador Gregory LoGerfo and Pakistan’s Special Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Nabeel Munir.

Officials from both countries reviewed security developments in the region and discussed changing threats from terrorist groups. The talks also covered measures to improve border security and prevent support networks from assisting terrorist organizations.

The two sides said they remained committed to taking action against groups they identified as threats to public safety and regional stability, including Islamic State-Khorasan (Daesh-Khorasan), al-Qaida, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, and the Balochistan Liberation Army and its affiliates.

Pakistan and the United States agreed to continue their counterterrorism partnership, with both sides seeking to support regional security and stability, the ministry said.
