Pakistan thanks Kuwait for facilitating timely arrival of vessel carrying fuel

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, thanked Kuwait for facilitating the timely arrival of the vessel Khairpur during a meeting with Kuwait's Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi on Tuesday, according to APP.


The minister expressed sincere gratitude to Kuwait for its support in ensuring the safe dispatch of the vessel, which arrived in Pakistan during a challenging period, carrying fuel supplies, the report added.


He said the vessel transported 45,000 tons of diesel and 10,000 tons of jet fuel under special approvals following disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, it added.


Malik said that, with the support of Kuwait, the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, the vessel safely completed its journey to Pakistan, helping ensure continuity of fuel supplies and supporting the country’s energy needs.


The meeting also focused on regional developments and energy cooperation, with both sides agreeing to strengthen bilateral relations and expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest, APP reported, citing a news release.


Malik said Pakistan remains committed to peace and stability, adding that the effects of the ongoing conflict are being felt not only across the region but also around the world.


The ambassador praised Pakistan’s peace efforts and said Kuwait encourages Pakistan to continue its constructive role in promoting regional peace, it added.


He added that Pakistan’s responsible stance has enhanced its standing in the international community.


Both sides also discussed prospects for greater cooperation in the petroleum and refining sectors, including the possibility of building strategic fuel storage facilities in Pakistan for the mutual benefit of both countries.
