Pakistan stresses diplomacy, coordination amid rising Middle East tensions

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday spoke with the foreign ministers of China, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the importance of ongoing coordination and diplomatic engagement to support de-escalation. He highlighted the need to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity.


During the conversation with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the two discussed developments in the Middle East and exchanged views on ongoing deliberations at the UN Security Council.


In a post on X, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Dar shared Pakistan’s perspective, underscoring the importance of continued coordination and diplomatic engagement to support de-escalation and promote peace and stability across the region and beyond.


According to the Foreign Office, Foreign Minister Dar also spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who appreciated Pakistan’s constructive efforts to promote de-escalation and stability in the region. 


"The two leaders stressed the importance of de-escalation and emphasized the need to pursue dialogue and diplomacy in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter," the Foreign Office said. 


"Both sides also reaffirmed the enduring strength of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, reiterated their shared commitment to further deepening bilateral cooperation, and agreed to remain in close contact," it added.


Separately, according to a post on the Kuwait Foreign Ministry’s X account, Foreign Minister Dar also called Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and expressed support for the country regarding the aggression that has targeted it. 


The foreign minister also emphasized the importance of respecting Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.


In another development, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko, during which the main focus was the escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
