A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky region, Russia, on Friday, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), the USGS said.

The US National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issued a tsunami advisory following the quake, Reuters reported.

On July 29, 2025, a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia's far eastern Kamchatka peninsula triggered multiple tsunami warnings and evacuation orders across the Pacific.

Waves generated by the powerful earthquake struck parts of Russia, Japan, and Hawaii.
