ISLAMABAD: Indian National Congress Spokesperson Dr Shama Mohamed criticized New Delhi government after reports of fraud exceeding $70 million emerged, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party favored “the corrupt so they can continue indulging in more corruption.”
According to the Indian Express, a fraud case linked with Central Procurement agency (CPA) and the Directorate General of Health services (DGHS) in Delhi was being probed by the Delhi Police. An official from the department said that they First Information Report did mention a name which was on their radar, adding that, if required, the suspect would be called in for questioning or may also be arrested.
The investigators described the suspect as a broker who created multiple shell firms in an attempt to benefit manufacturers by rigging tenders for medicines, surgical items, consumables and equipment, the Indian Express reported.
The suspect allegedly tied up manufacturers, fixing supply rates and arranging cash kickbacks, said sources.
According to the complaint, “tender specifications and terms were prepared to favor the pre-decided firms [...] with the liaisoner/supplier drafting restrictive specifications in collusion with manufacturer contacts. those documents were then reportedly routed to Dr Vinod Kumar Ranga, Head of Office of CPA, who presented them to the tender committee.”
While drawing light to the fraud earlier this week, the opposition spokesperson stated that the DGHS former director Vatsala Aggarwal, who had been under enquiry since 2024, was given the interim charge of DMC in August last year.
“BJP always favours the corrupt so they can continue indulging in more corruption,” Mohamed said, calling for the Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to be held accountable.
