ISLAMABAD: A Korean tourist has accused a staff member at an Indian airport of molesting her on the pretext of checking her ticket and bag, Indian media reported on Thursday.
According to the report, the incident allegedly occurred at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Jan. 19. The woman had completed immigration formalities when the accused, Afan Ahmed, approached her, claiming he needed to conduct a baggage inspection.
According to the FIR, Ahmed told the tourist that there was a beeping sound in her checked-in baggage.
He claimed that a detailed counter check would delay her flight and suggested a personal check instead.
He then allegedly took the woman near a washroom, where he molested her.
When she resisted, he reportedly said, “OK, thank you,” and walked away.
Shocked by the incident, the woman immediately lodged a complaint with airport security.
Acting on her report, authorities detained Ahmed and handed him over to the police.
Based on the FIR, the police have registered a case against the accused and launched a formal investigation.
Travel to India
Last year, the US Department of State maintained a Level 2 advisory to American citizens and workers living in India, asking them to "exercise increased caution", in the wake of incidents of crime and terrorism, Indian media reported.
The Trump administration also asked women not to travel alone and to be extra alert at tourist sites and other locations.
"Exercise increased caution in India due to crime and terrorism. Some areas have increased risk. Violent crime and terrorism occur in India. Rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crimes, including sexual assault, happen at tourist sites and other locations," the advisory, which was reissued on June 16, 2025, after periodic review with updates to entry/exit requirements, according to Indian media reports.
