VIENNA: Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi has said that newly signed agreements with Pakistan reflect continued and expanding cooperation across nuclear medicine, agriculture, and environmental recovery, calling the partnership productive and forward-looking. Speaking exclusively to Pakistan TV in Vienna, he said the latest engagements build on years of joint technical work between the agency and Pakistani institutions.
Grossi said cooperation is being strengthened particularly in radiotherapy and oncology through collaboration with a leading institute in Lahore, alongside ongoing joint programs in food, nutrition, water management, and nuclear energy. He noted that IAEA-supported initiatives in Pakistan have achieved extraordinary progress in crop development, especially in cotton production, helping improve both quality and yield, and contributing directly to the country’s economy.
He added that further efforts are underway to expand cooperation in water management and soil recovery following the devastating floods in 2022 and again in 2025, with international and Pakistani technical teams working closely together. Referring to his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Vienna, Grossi said the premier’s personal engagement with international organizations reflects a strong belief in multilateral solutions to pressing global challenges and demonstrates active leadership in advancing Pakistan’s international partnerships
