ISLAMABAD: Bangladesh Air Force and state-owned China Electronics Technology Group Corporation International have signed an agreement under a government-to-government framework to establish an unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturing and assembly plant in Bangladesh, state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported on Tuesday.

According to a press release from Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan attended the signing ceremony as the chief guest.


The agreement covers the establishment of a state-of-the-art unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturing and assembly facility, along with technology transfer, capacity building, industrial skills development and joint technical cooperation, BSS reported.


Officials said the project aims to help Bangladesh achieve long-term self-reliance in unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturing.


Under the agreement, BAF will initially acquire the capability to manufacture and assemble various types of medium-altitude, low-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicles, according to BSS.


The ceremony was also attended by Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General S.M. Kamrul Hasan, Secretary of the Chief Adviser's Office Md Saifullah Panna, and Secretary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Dr Hafiz Ahmed Chowdhury, the report said.
