ISLAMABAD: Vitol and Cnergyico, Pakistan’s largest oil refiner, have delivered Pakistan’s biggest single shipment of very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) for ship refuelling, the global trading company said in a statement on Monday.

This marks Pakistan’s first large-scale production of fuel that meets International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental standards, the statement said.

The shipment is described as an important step for Pakistan’s maritime and energy sectors, as it supports the local production of cleaner marine fuel for international shipping lines.

The company said that on November 17, the Vitol-owned Singapore-flagged barge Marine Ista, with "a deadweight of 8,722 metric tons, became the first bunker barge to load fuel directly from Karachi Port Trust Oil Pier instead of through trucks”.

This fuel was produced at Cnergyico’s refinery using the first shipment of United States crude oil supplied by Vitol for refining in Pakistan. The statement said that under their ongoing collaboration, Cnergyico will continue to provide Vitol with VLSFO for regular supply.

Syed Ammar Hussaini, Vitol Bunkers said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Cnergyico on this milestone for Pakistan. Our global network of bunkering locations continues to expand, and our customers benefit from greater flexibility and more energy supply options.”

Vitol’s new bunkering locations in Pakistan will include Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Karachi Anchorage.

Aumar Abbassciy, a director at Cnergyico PK Limited, said, “We are glad to start this new business segment with Vitol Asia. Our partnership with Vitol continues to evolve, and this latest initiative enhances Pakistan’s capacity to serve the global shipping industry with sustainable fuel solutions.”
