Poland looks to boost trade, defence ties with Pakistan: Ambassador Maciej Pisarski

ISLAMABAD: Poland is seeking to significantly expand trade, defence cooperation, and technological partnership with Pakistan as bilateral relations enter a new phase, said the Polish Ambassador to Pakistan Maciej Pisarski.

In an exclusive interview with Pakistan Television, Ambassador Pisarski described the recent visit of Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski as a “major step forward,” noting that both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in mining, fintech, water management, agriculture, and defence technologies.

He highlighted that bilateral trade has crossed US$1 billion, though both countries have far greater potential. He emphasized Poland’s interest in increasing its commercial footprint in Pakistan, especially as Polish energy giant Orlen has already invested over US$500 million in the country’s gas sector.

On defence ties, Pisarski recalled Poland’s historic role in supporting the formation of the Pakistan Air Force and expressed readiness to enhance cooperation in aviation, training, and defence technology.

He also underscored opportunities for collaboration in fintech, praising Pakistan’s young digital workforce and calling it a powerful complement to Poland’s fast-growing digital innovation ecosystem.

Highlighting educational and cultural bonds, the ambassador noted the rising number of Pakistani students in Poland and the longstanding humanitarian and historical links between the two nations.

Pisarski concluded by saying Poland and Pakistan “share values, history and aspirations” and can jointly pursue a more stable and prosperous future.
