ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, as part of an official engagement with Saudi Arabia, according to his office on Saturday.
In an official statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, PM Sharif prayed at the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah and spent time in Riaz Al-Jannah, a sacred garden within the complex. The prime minister offered prayers for Pakistan's development.
The visit included a delegation of senior Pakistani officials. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi were part of the delegation.
The visit began Thursday when PM Sharif arrived in Jeddah and was received by Saudi Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz and Pakistan's Ambassador Ahmad Farooq.
On Friday, the prime minister and his delegation performed Umrah in Makkah and were granted access to the Holy Kaaba. Later that day, PM Sharif met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Safa Palace to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and reviewing regional developments.
Pakistan's Foreign Office said the visit reflects the nations' partnership anchored in "decades of mutual trust, cooperation and brotherhood."
The two countries have advanced cooperation on security, investment and economic collaboration, including development of an international-standard cricket stadium in Jeddah.
