ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Human Rights marked the International Day of the Girl Child on Friday with UNICEF Pakistan. The theme was “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis”
Federal Human Rights Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar praised girls’ leadership. He said “On this International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the strength, courage, and leadership of girls who are shaping a brighter future for our nation”
The minister added “girls are not just beneficiaries of progress but its true drivers.”
The event gathered officials, civil society, partners and youth advocates. They discussed child rights and gender equality in Pakistan.
Human Rights Secretary Abdul Khaliq Shaikh said girls are agents of change. He called for listening to girls, investing in their leadership and removing barriers.
The ministry cited the Constitution to frame its policy. Article 25 guarantees equality before the law, and Article 35 protects women and children.
Minister Azam said the government backs girls’ education, health, protection and equal chances. He said the goal is “to build a Pakistan where every girl is safe, valued, and empowered to lead with confidence and dignity.”
The secretary highlighted Article 35 of the constitution which ensures the protection of women and children. He also addressed Pakistan’s ratification of key international conventions, including the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and ILO Conventions on child labour.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Government of Pakistan remains committed to empowering girls through education, health, protection, and equal opportunities.” The minister concluded.
The ministry reaffirmed its resolve to create an environment where every girl’s potential is recognized, her rights are protected, and her dreams are within reach.
