Islamabad hosts preparatory meetings for 9th Islamic conference on women's empowerment

ISLAMABAD: The preparatory meetings for the 9th session of the Islamic Conference on Women have begun in Islamabad under the theme, "The Social-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in OIC Countries: Challenges and the Way Forward," according to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The event is jointly organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Pakistan's Ministry of Human Rights, with "broad participation from female ministers of women’s and family affairs and high-level delegations from various countries across the Islamic world", said a post shared by the OIC on X on Sunday.

The conference builds "on the efforts that began at the previous session in Cairo in 2021 and the sessions that preceded it."

This year's conference focuses on "formulating future visions that support Muslim women" and is discussing "vital issues," including education and the economy.

The education discussions are aimed at "enhancing learning opportunities and capacity building," while the economy and environment agenda focuses on "empowering women’s role and contribution in shaping economic and environmental policies in member states."
