ISLAMABAD: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Russia on Monday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and senior Russian officials to discuss bilateral Iran-Russia relations and regional and international developments, according to Al Jazeera.
The Iranian foreign minister said he traveled to Russia “with the aim of continuing close consultations between Tehran and Moscow on regional and international issues,” Al Jazeera reported, quoting Iranian media.
After visiting Pakistan twice within two days and making a trip to Oman in between, Araghchi arrived in Russia as part of his regional tour.
FM Araghchi said that the visit to Russia "will be a good opportunity" to discuss developments in the war and review the latest situation.
“I am confident that these consultations and coordination between the two countries in this regard will be of particular importance,” he added.
Speaking about the Strait of Hormuz, he said that safe passage through the strait is an "important global issue."
Earlier, FM Araghchi lauded Pakistan's peace efforts to mediate between the US and Iran and called the visit to Pakistan "very fruitful," saying that Pakistan's "good offices and brotherly efforts to bring peace back to our region we very much value."
Islamabad emerged as the lead mediator in efforts to end the US-Iran war, but following a marathon first session of talks on April 11, Tehran has not yet announced participation in a second round.
