ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced an all-female match official panel for the upcoming Women's World Cup.

The cricket governing body said the first-of-its-kind move was aimed at elevating and empowering women in cricket.

“While the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the two recent ICC Women's T20 World Cups featured all-female match official panels, this is the first time in the history of the Women's World Cup the feat will be achieved,” the cricket board said.

The group of 14 umpires includes Claire Polosak, Jacquline Williams, and Sue Redfern. This trio will be appearing at their third Women's World Cup. Lauren Agenbag and Kim Cotton will be at their second World Cup. They officiated when Australia won their record seventh title in New Zealand in 2022.

The match referee panel features four officials: Trudy Anderson, Shandré Fritz, GS Lakshmi, and Michelle Pereira. They bring varied experience to the 13th edition of the Women's World Cup. The tournament will be held in India and Sri Lanka from September 30.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah called the all-female panel a historic moment for women’s cricket. He believes it will inspire many more success stories in the future.

“This marks a defining moment in the journey of women’s cricket," Shah said. "We hope it will pave the way for many more trailblazing stories across all facets of the sport."

"Role models for future generations"

He added that this move is more than symbolic. “It is about visibility, opportunity, and creating meaningful role models who can inspire future generations.”

“By showcasing officiating excellence on the global stage, we want to spark aspiration. We want to show that leadership and impact in cricket know no gender."

“We are proud to mark a new chapter in the growth of the women’s game,” Shah said. “This initiative will go beyond this tournament. It will encourage more women around the world to take up officiating. And it will help redefine what’s possible in cricket.”
