BEIJING: The death toll from a coal mine blast in northern China has jumped sharply from eight to 82, state media reported on Saturday.
Earlier, state broadcaste CCTV had reported over 50 miners had died in the incident.
"Reporters at the scene of the gas explosion at the Liushenyu Coal Mine... have learnt that the accident has claimed the lives of over 50 people," CCTV had said.
Rescue operations are still underway.
