'Afghan Taliban, TTP are ideological cousins,' says former ambassador

Ambassador Asif Durrani, Pakistan's former special representative to Afghanistan, says the Afghan Taliban were unwilling rather than unable to act against the TTP, describing negotiations as a frustrating experience in which promises of visible change were made every three to four months but never delivered. 

He says the Taliban and TTP are ideological cousins cut from the same cloth. He also alleges that India has been funding the TTP through Afghan intelligence channels via Dubai since the group's formation in 2007, and warns that over two dozen terrorist groups are currently sheltering in Afghanistan.
