ISLAMABAD: Two Indian Army personnel were critically injured in a landmine explosion near the ceasefire line in the Uri sector of Baramulla district in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), according to Indian media reports.

The media reported that both the injured soldiers were evacuated from the site and airlifted to the Indian Army's Base Hospital at Badamibagh in Srinagar, where they are receiving treatment.

Indian authorities have not disclosed the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion or whether it occurred during an operational activity or routine movement.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the presence of landmines in areas which Pakistan refers to as the Ceasefire Line under the Karachi Agreement, while India refers to it as the Line of Control (LoC).

Security experts say the blast exposes serious weaknesses within India’s security apparatus. Modi regime’s claims of ironclad control and normalcy appear increasingly hollow, they say.

Security analyst Abdullah Khan, commenting on the incident, said the episode highlights concerns over the risks posed by landmines in the region.

"While incidents involving military personnel often receive widespread media attention, civilians living in border areas also face dangers from mines and unexploded ordnance," he told Pakistan TV Digital.

“The United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) should play its mandated role in monitoring the ceasefire arrangements and identifying areas affected by landmines to help reduce risks for local populations,” he added.

The incident remains under investigation. The Indian Army has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the explosion.
