ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday reaffirmed that Pakistan remains fully committed to upholding press freedom and ensuring a secure environment for media professionals.&nbsp;In his message issued on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, the prime minister stated, &ldquo;A free press is the guarantee for a strong, transparent and democratic Pakistan.&rdquo;&nbsp;He noted that the day serves as a reminder that an informed and responsible press forms the foundation of any democratic society. Journalists, he said, play a vital role in enabling public access to facts and act as &ldquo;torchbearers of truth.&rdquo;&nbsp;According to the PM&rsquo;s statement, &ldquo;Acts of violence, threats or vengeance against journalists in the course of their professional duties are, in fact, attacks on freedom of expression.&rdquo;&nbsp;Paying tribute to media professionals who have faced hardships in pursuit of truth, justice, and public interest, the prime minister expressed solidarity with the families of journalists and media workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.&nbsp;He said the government would continue to strengthen mechanisms to protect journalists and ensure accountability, adding, &ldquo;We will take all necessary measures to guarantee effective investigation of crimes against journalists, deliver justice, and ensure legal action against the perpetrators.&rdquo;&nbsp;The prime minister also called on the international community, media organizations, and civil society to work together to safeguard journalists and promote the universal right to freedom of expression.

Trump said he had received reports of possible tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, but credited the Pakistani leadership for handling the situation swiftly and peacefully.&nbsp;&quot;I will solve the Pakistan and Afghanistan conflict very quickly,&quot; he added. &ldquo;I am a proponent of peace across the world,&rdquo; Trump said, claiming to have helped halt eight wars so far. &ldquo;I stopped wars through trade,&rdquo; he added, emphasizing that the United States prefers trade over conflict. Earlier, Trump witnessed the signing of an expanded ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia following recent deadly border clashes.&nbsp; Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet signed the accord at a ceremony themed &ldquo;Delivering Peace,&rdquo; building on a truce reached three months earlier. &ldquo;This declaration, if fully implemented, will provide the building blocks for lasting peace,&rdquo; Hun Manet said, noting that border communities had suffered greatly from past hostilities. Trump also attended a series of trade discussions on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, where he signed new trade and mineral cooperation deals with both Thailand and Cambodia.

The Prime Minister&rsquo;s Office stated that the visit underscores Pakistan&rsquo;s &ldquo;steadfast commitment to advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people and extending all possible political and diplomatic support to them.&rdquo; It added that Pakistan hopes the peace agreement &ldquo;will help end the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, ensure Israeli withdrawal, enable the safe return of displaced Palestinians, and begin the process of reconstruction.&rdquo; Pakistan remains hopeful that such initiatives will pave the way for the establishment of an &ldquo;independent and sovereign State of Palestine within pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital,&rdquo; in line with UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

A judicial commission shall be appointed where required. &bull; Persons killed in the incidents of 01st and 02nd October 2025 shall be compensated with monetary benefits equivalent to LEAs. Gunshot injuries will be compensated at the rate of Rupees 10 lac per injured person. A Govt. job shall be granted to one of the family members of each dead person within 20 days. &bull; Two additional intermediate and secondary educational boards shall be notified for Muzaffarabad and Poonch Divisions. All 3 intermediate and Secondary boards of AJ&amp;K shall be linked with Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Islamabad within 30 days. &bull; The possession of lands with extended families of Mirpur district in case of Mangla Dam Raising project shall be regularized in 30 days. &bull; The Local Government Act in its current shape shall be brought in conformity with the spirit of the original Local Govt.
