ISLAMABAD: Pakistan&rsquo;s Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi on Friday announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would be undertaking an official visit to China from May 23-26, during which he will hold meetings with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.&nbsp; During his weekly press briefing on Friday, the spokesperson said, &ldquo;At the invitation of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China, PM Shehbaz Sharif will undertake an official visit to China from May 23 to 26.&rdquo; Andrabi said that the prime minister&rsquo;s visit carried special significance as the neighbouring countries were commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. He said, &ldquo;The visit will provide an opportunity to reaffirm the abiding strength of the Pakistan-China all-weather strategic partnership and advance a shared vision of building an even closer Pakistan-China community of a shared future.&rdquo; Andrabi further said that during the visit, Prime Minister Sharif would hold meetings with the Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang. &ldquo;The two sides will review bilateral relations, and cooperation in political, economic and strategic domains,&rdquo; he said. The spokesperson further said, &ldquo;The visit is expected to strengthen and deepen political trust, strategic coordination, expand political cooperation and consolidate the long-standing friendship between the two countries.&rdquo; The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that the premier will begin his visit from the Chinese city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, where he will chair the &ldquo;Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference&rdquo; on IT, telecommunication, energy storage, and agriculture. &ldquo;In Beijing, the prime minister will attend a reception hosted by the Chinese People&rsquo;s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries to commemorate the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations,&rdquo; Andrabi elaborated. A statement from Pakistan&#39;s Foreign Office said that during the visit, the two sides will review bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and strategic domains, with particular focus on the high-quality development of CPEC, trade, investment, industrial cooperation, agricultural modernisation, information technology, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges. It went on to say that the visit is expected to deepen political trust, strengthen strategic coordination, expand practical cooperation, and consolidate the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China. Chinese Delegation in PakistanThe spokesperson said that a Chinese delegation led by Vice Chairman of the National People&rsquo;s Congress (NPC) Cai Dafeng arrived in Islamabad on 20 May to participate in commemorative activities marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.&nbsp; He added that the delegation called on Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday. Peace EffortsTahir Andrabi said that Pakistan&rsquo;s efforts for peace in the Middle East continued during the last week, when&nbsp;Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held two telephone conversations with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, while&nbsp;Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar remained actively engaged with his counterparts in the different countries. He further said that Pakistan&#39;s&nbsp;Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi undertook two important visits to Iran on 16 May and 20 May and held meetings with the Iranian leadership. The spokesperson added that Pakistan expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates when there were attacks on May 17.&nbsp;&nbsp; With respect to the UAE attacks, the spokesman said, Pakistan underscored that any deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities constitutes a grave violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, the United Nations Charter, and the fundamental principles of nuclear safety and security enshrined in the Statute and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Iran-US diplomatic engagement The spokesperson said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been in sustained contact with regional and international counterparts over the Iran-US ceasefire efforts. Bannu terror attack Pakistan summoned Afghanistan&#39;s charg&eacute; d&#39;affaires in Islamabad following a terrorist attack on the Fateh Khel police post in Bannu on May 9. Over 15 officers were martyred, and several others were wounded. The two leaders exchanged views on the recently concluded Islamabad Talks. The Five-Point Peace Initiative, agreed in Beijing on March 31 between Pakistan and China, calls for stopping the fighting right away and starting peace talks soon. It supports respect for countries&rsquo; borders and security, protection of civilians, and avoiding attacks on infrastructure and nuclear facilities.&nbsp; It also calls for safe sea routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, and safe movement of ships. It urges following the United Nations Charter and working toward peace through international cooperation and law. The Chinese FM praised Pakistan&rsquo;s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. He said China supports Pakistan&rsquo;s diplomatic role in bring the US and Iran to the negotiating table.&nbsp; Meanwhile, Dar said Pakistan remains committed to dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means to restore peace. Both sides agreed to remain in close contact.

ISLAMABAD: Political analyst Zoon Ahmed Khan has highlighted Pakistan and China&rsquo;s crucial roles in promoting stability and dialogue in the region on Tuesday.&nbsp; Speaking on Pakistan TV&rsquo;s The Newsroom with Sana Maqbool from Beijing, China, Zoon Ahmad Khan emphasized that both countries have long-term stakes in regional peace, connectivity and adherence to international law. She said China and Pakistan have consistently supported regional efforts, including trilateral dialogues with Iran focused on peace.&nbsp; &ldquo;We are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and have spearheaded initiatives to reduce misunderstandings and improve dialogue,&rdquo; the political analyst said. On Pakistan&rsquo;s role in the Middle East, Zoon said Pakistan has a security pact with Saudi Arabia, strong ties with neighbors like Iran, and has repeatedly pursued diplomacy and dialogue despite challenges. <div class="fr-embed youtube-embed"> </div>&ldquo;Pakistan, with a very balanced approach towards its neighbors and towards the Middle East region at large, is an excellent candidate; a country that can bring together the foreign ministers&#39; dialogue,&rdquo; she said, adding that, &ldquo;You have Turkiye, Egypt, Saudi Arabia coming together, trusting Pakistan, again, because of Pakistan&#39;s track record and the way Pakistan has conducted itself for years&rdquo;. Zoon also&nbsp;praised China&rsquo;s role in global peace initiatives.&nbsp; &ldquo;China promotes peace, connectivity, and dialogue through projects like the Belt and Road Initiative and multilateral mediation efforts. Its five principles of peaceful coexistence, central to its foreign policy, echo the spirit of the Bandung Movement and the rise of the Global South,&rdquo; she said. Highlighting Pakistan-China cooperation, Zoon Ahmad Khan said the strategic partnership, mutual trust and regional experience position both countries to facilitate positive developments.&nbsp; &ldquo;Pakistan previously played a key role in easing tensions between China and the US, demonstrating our capacity to act responsibly in times of global crises,&rdquo; she added. Zoon said the stakes are high, and all responsible countries must step up to prevent conflicts that could affect the world at large.
