AMMAN: A new group of wounded or ill Palestinian children from Gaza have arrived in Jordan to receive medical care, the kingdom&#39;s army said on Tuesday.&nbsp;They are the 26th group of children transported to Jordan since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023.&nbsp;The 81 children, accompanied by 108 family members, arrived through the King Hussein, or Allenby, border crossing between the occupied West Bank and Jordan, the army said in a statement.&nbsp;It is part of the &quot;Jordanian medical corridor&quot; initiative that King Abdullah II agreed to following a meeting with US President Donald Trump in February 2025.&nbsp;Under the initiative, around 2,000 children will be transported to Jordan to receive medical care.&nbsp;Since March last year, more than 716 children have been transferred in cooperation with the World Health Organization, the majority of them suffering from fractures, major wounds or cancer.&nbsp;&quot;The children will be treated in a number of Jordanian hospitals, as part of the kingdom&#39;s ongoing medical and humanitarian efforts to provide healthcare and medical support to our brothers and sisters in the Gaza Strip,&quot; the army said.&nbsp;A ceasefire has largely held in Gaza since last October, but some violence has persisted.&nbsp;

GAZA CITY: Israeli air strikes killed 22 people in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, including women and children, according to the territory&#39;s civil defense agency, updating an earlier toll. Despite a US-brokered ceasefire entering its second phase earlier this month, violence in the Palestinian territory has continued, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violating the truce agreement. The latest violence comes as Israel announced it would reopen the crucial Rafa crossing between Gaza and Egypt on Sunday, a key demand by humanitarian organisations. &quot;The death toll in the Gaza Strip from Israeli air strikes since dawn on Saturday has risen to 22, most of them women and children, with others still trapped under the rubble,&quot; the civil defence agency, a rescue force operating under the Hamas authority, said in a statement. &quot;Residential apartments, tents, shelters and a police station were targeted, resulting in this humanitarian catastrophe,&quot; agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal said in the statement. The Israeli retaliation flattened much of Gaza, which was already suffering from previous rounds of fighting and from an Israeli blockade imposed since 2007. The two-year war has left at least 71,769 people dead in Gaza, according to the health ministry, whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations.
