ISLAMABAD: A pattern seems to be emerging in which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to use security incidents in the country to create a false image of strong leadership at home. The recent explosion on Tuesday in India&rsquo;s capital, New Delhi, killed at least eight people and injured more than a dozen others. While early reports and eyewitness accounts suggested a cylinder blast, the Modi-led &nbsp;Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)&nbsp;government quickly shifted its stance, calling it a &ldquo;terrorist attack.&rdquo;&nbsp;Within hours, police had registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, India&rsquo;s principal anti-terrorism law.&nbsp; According to Indian media, investigators are exploring a possible link to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), a group which India accuses Pakistan of supporting. Pakistan has consistently denied this; it proscribed the group in 2022. The mode of investigation to explore links to the banned group raises concerns that India is seeking ways to draw Pakistan into the blame narrative once again.&nbsp;&nbsp;Incidentally, the shift in tone has coincided with the second and final phase of the crucial Bihar elections, which began today (Wednesday), and which Modi&#39;s party, the BJP, must win. The PM wasted no time: the morning after the Delhi explosion, he was already back on the campaign trail, asking for votes.<img src="https://paktv-assets-7d41fab8.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/2111f322-6506-43e0-bca5-d9808718d8e6.png" style="width: 1000px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib">This approach only reinforces the trend seen over the past decade under Modi&rsquo;s government, where major attacks have not only shaped India&rsquo;s security posture but also carried significant political undertones. Let&rsquo;s take a look. Pathankot (Jan. 2016)Modi undertook a private and unscheduled visit to Pakistan in Dec. 2015. The move drew widespread criticism in India. To deflect domestic pressure, Modi needed to shift the narrative. In Jan. 2016, the Pathankot Air Force Base in Indian Punjab was attacked by militants.&nbsp;Indian officials accused JeM and Pakistan of responsibility. Modi condemned the incident, saluted the armed forces, and called upon Pakistan to take immediate action against those responsible.&nbsp;The incident helped his government justify a tougher stance toward Islamabad and laid the groundwork for a more aggressive national-security doctrine. Uri and the &#39;surgical strikes&#39; (Sep. 2016)On Sept. 18, 2016, 19 soldiers were killed in an attack on an Indian Army camp in Uri, Occupied Kashmir. India responded by announcing &ldquo;surgical strikes&rdquo; across the border, - a claim vehemently denied by Pakistan. The move was celebrated domestically as a show of strength and became a defining moment for Modi&rsquo;s image as a decisive leader. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi accused the government of &ldquo;hiding behind the blood of soldiers,&rdquo; while others, including former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanded &ldquo;proof&rdquo; of the strikes.&nbsp;Pulwama and Balakot (February-April 2019)In Feb. 2019, a suicide bombing in Pulwama killed 40 paramilitary personnel. Commentators noted that the intense media coverage and surge in nationalist sentiment overwhelmingly favored the ruling BJP, helping reinforce Modi&rsquo;s image as a strong, security-focused leader.&nbsp;Fast forward to 2025Earlier this year, an attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Pahalgam area, a clear intelligence and security failure, was blamed on Pakistan within an hour. The police report, registered within 30 minutes, directly accused Islamabad. Within hours, India announced it was suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, a move it had reportedly been considering for years.&nbsp;Pakistan&rsquo;s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered an independent, transparent international inquiry into the attack. But Modi, facing domestic pressure to deliver a forceful response in line with his &ldquo;strongman&rdquo; image, chose to exploit the situation politically and ordered strikes against Pakistan.&nbsp;The result proved disastrous: India reportedly lost at least six fighter jets, including Rafales, in a single night, a humiliating outcome that undercut Modi&rsquo;s message of military superiority on the international stage.&nbsp;Weeks later, in a public address, Modi said he was &ldquo;burning with the fire of revenge.&rdquo;&nbsp;&ldquo;From the land of Kutch, I send this message to the people of Pakistan. It will test a mobile app&ndash;based data collection system and self-enumeration options designed to replace traditional paper-based methods. &quot;The objective is to assess the functioning and efficiency of the digital application across diverse areas -- from urban regions to those with limited mobile network connectivity,&quot; the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement. &quot;This trial marks a significant step toward India&#39;s first-ever fully digital census, replacing traditional paper-based schedules.&quot; The exercise presents an immense logistical challenge -- voting in the 2024 general elections was electronic, and polling took place in seven phases over six weeks. But a census must be conducted at a single point in time to capture a single snapshot of the population -- and avoid double-counting. The main count is scheduled for March 1, 2027. But in high-altitude Himalayan regions -- including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Ladakh, and the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir -- the census will begin earlier on Oct. 1, 2026, before snowfall begins. Caste remains a powerful determinant of social status in India, shaping access to resources, education, and opportunity. More than two-thirds of India&#39;s 1.4 billion people are believed to belong to historically disadvantaged communities, long subject to systemic discrimination. The millennia-old social hierarchy divides Hindus by function and social standing. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has repeatedly rejected this theory, and centuries of historical and architectural records credit Mughal emperor Shah Jahan with commissioning the monument for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Yet in Narendra Modi&rsquo;s India, history is increasingly subject to reinterpretation. When cinema becomes a vehicle for myth presented as fact, and when millions absorb propaganda as entertainment, it amounts to a systematic reframing of Muslim contributions to the subcontinent, and of the identities of the 200 million Muslims who live in India today. Hindu nationalist groups spent decades claiming the 16th-century mosque stood atop the birthplace of the Hindu deity Ram. In December 1992, tens of thousands demolished the mosque. The violence and riots killed thousands. After a 17-year inquiry, the Liberhan Commission named BJP and RSS leaders &ldquo;responsible&rdquo; for the demolition. But in 2019, the Supreme Court, while declaring the mosque&rsquo;s destruction illegal, awarded the land to a Hindu trust. In January 2024, Modi inaugurated a new temple on the site in a nationally televised ceremony. The message many took from the sequence was clear: demolish first, wait, then receive recognition. Rewriting identity in classrooms The historical revision extends to classrooms. School textbooks have been reworked to minimize the cultural, architectural, and scientific contributions of Muslim dynasties, particularly the Mughals, who shaped Indian identity for centuries. Mughal emperors are increasingly framed as &ldquo;foreign occupiers&rdquo; rather than rulers whose legacy is interwoven with Indian music, language, art, and city-building. Curriculum is not neutral. What children learn determines who they believe belongs. The politics behind the rewrite Proponents of these changes argue they are restoring &ldquo;authentic Hindu history&rdquo; suppressed by earlier scholars and Muslim rule. But the effect is to cast Indian Muslims as historical outsiders in their own country. If the Taj Mahal, a globally recognized symbol of India, is reframed as &ldquo;originally Hindu,&rdquo; then Muslim claims to Indian cultural heritage are weakened. If mosques are reclassified as former temples, then every mosque becomes contested. Pluralism erodes quietly, long before violence erupts, through shifts in who is considered rightful. What is at stake The Taj Mahal itself will not change. Marble does not respond to political pressure. But the idea of India that built the Taj, a state where Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and other communities participated together in shared cultural production, may not survive if historical narrative becomes a tool of exclusion. The transformation unfolding is not simply about monuments or textbooks. It is about defining who belongs in the world&rsquo;s largest &#39;democracy&#39;. When a nation with 1.4 billion people and one of the world&rsquo;s largest Muslim populations reorders its history around a singular religious identity, the implications are global. Cinema scenes can become political reality. A fictional demand for a monument&rsquo;s DNA test reflects a deeper shift: the attempt to rewrite not just history, but citizenship itself.

ISLAMABAD: India&rsquo;s ruling party released a music video, &ldquo;Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai,&rdquo; earlier this month, to promote and celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi; instead, it&rsquo;s become one of the most-rejected videos in recent Indian internet history.&nbsp;The track, produced by the heavyweight label T-Series, has garnered an estimated 90 percent dislikes, with approximately 440,222 of these by Wednesday, according to independent tracking tools. On YouTube, where dislike counts are hidden, such a ratio is almost unheard of. Even the notorious YouTube Rewind 2018, the most disliked video and long held as the internet&rsquo;s ultimate cringe event, didn&rsquo;t cross the 90 percent mark.&nbsp;In the video, Bollywood regulars such as Rajkummar Rao, Varun Dhawan, and Arshad Warsi, among others, featured singing along.&nbsp;Percent-wise, the rejection is extremely rare but not unprecedented. In 2020, Mahesh Bhatt&rsquo;s Sadak 2 trailer suffered a similar digital mutiny, with roughly 95% dislikes after calls to boycott &ldquo;nepotism cinema.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;BJP IT-cell head Amit Malviya dismissed screenshots as fake, arguing that dislike counts are hidden.
