ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has secured a key leadership role in one of the region&#39;s largest economic forums, as it is set to assume the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Business Council in 2027, said a statement of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) on Sunday. According to the statement, the decision was announced during the SCO Business Council Board Meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, where Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Atif Ikram Sheikh described the development as a strong vote of confidence in Pakistan&#39;s growing role within the regional bloc. The statement quoted Atif Ikram, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the SCO Business Council, saying, &ldquo;Pakistan would use its upcoming chairmanship to promote regional trade, attract investment, strengthen business-to-business partnerships and expand economic cooperation among SCO member states.&rdquo; The statement said that leading an FPCCI delegation of prominent businessmen and industrialists, Atif Ikram participated in discussions focused on enhancing economic integration, commercial partnerships and sustainable development across the SCO region. Addressing the meeting, he highlighted Pakistan&#39;s strategic geographic location, improving investment climate and commitment to strengthening economic ties with fellow SCO countries.&nbsp; According to the statement, he also underlined the importance of the private sector in unlocking the region&#39;s economic potential through greater cross-border trade, joint ventures and cooperation in key sectors, including industry, agriculture, energy, information technology, logistics and infrastructure. &ldquo;FPCCI Vice President Tariq Khan Jadoon welcomed Pakistan&#39;s selection, saying the federation would work closely with member states to create new opportunities for trade, investment and innovation while promoting inclusive regional growth,&rdquo; added the statement. The statement went on to say that on the sidelines of the meeting, Pakistani delegation attended the SCO Business and Investment Forum, participated in business-to-business sessions and held bilateral meetings with representatives from member countries to explore collaboration in trade, technology transfer and industrial cooperation.
