Israel army issues evacuation warning for areas in Lebanon city of Tyre

Israel's military called on residents of several buildings in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre to immediately evacuate ahead of planned strikes in the area on Friday.
"Urgent warning to residents of Lebanon, especially to residents of the city of Tyre... you are located near Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure against which the IDF is preparing to operate," the military's Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee said on X.
"We urge you to immediately distance yourselves from these buildings and the surrounding structures, and move at least 300 metres away from them," the post said, alongside a map identifying the sites.
Lebanon says 3 paramedics killed in Israeli strike on south

An Israeli strike on southern Lebanon killed three paramedics from the Hezbollah-linked Islamic Health Committee on Friday, the Lebanese health ministry said.
In a statement, the ministry said an Israeli strike "directly targeted" the Islamic Health Committee's centre in Haruf, south Lebanon, killing three paramedics and critically wounding a fourth.
Lebanon, Israel ceasefire extended by 45 days: US

Lebanon and Israel extended a ceasefire for 45 days, despite a new flareup in violence, the US State Department said after mediating talks.
"The April 16 cessation of hostilities will be extended by 45 days to enable further progress," State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said.
He said that the State Department would hold negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent political agreement on June 2 and 3, and that the Pentagon would bring together delegations from the countries' militaries on May 29.
"We hope these discussions will advance lasting peace between the two countries, full recognition of each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and establishing genuine security along their shared border," Pigott said.
The ceasefire, already extended, had been due to expire on Sunday.

Israel carried out new strikes in southern Lebanon that it said targeted the militant group Hezbollah, wounding 37 people as the two countries' envoys started a second day of peace talks in Washington.

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon said that talks between Lebanon and Israel offer a "critical opportunity" to end the Israel-Hezbollah war.
"Diplomatic efforts now offer a critical opportunity to stop the violence," Imran Riza said in a statement, adding that he hoped "ongoing negotiations will pave the way toward a political solution".
"Airstrikes and demolitions continue daily, with an unacceptable toll on civilians and civilian infrastructure," he added. Israeli attacks have killed at least 2,951 people since the start of the war on March 2, according to Lebanon's health ministry.

United States President Donald Trump said that his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping "feels strongly" that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon.
"He (Xi) feels strongly that they can't have a nuclear weapon and he wants them to open up the strait," Trump told reporters onboard Air Force One, referring to the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway that has been choked by the war.
Iran FM says 'received messages' from US saying willing to continue talks

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday his government had received messages from the United States indicating that President Donald Trump's administration was open to continuing talks aimed at ending the Middle East war.
"What was said that the United States rejected Iran's proposal or Iran's response to the American proposal was a few days ago, when Mr Trump tweeted and said that it was unacceptable," Araghchi told reporters in the Indian capital.
"But after that we received messages again from the Americans saying that they are willing to continue the talks and continue the interaction."

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday he was open to any support, including from China, to help resolve conflict in the Middle East.
"We appreciate any country who has the ability to help, particularly China," he told reporters in the Indian capital, where he attended a meeting of the BRICS bloc of nations.
"We have very good relations with China, we are strategic partners to each other, and we know that (the) Chinese have a good intention, so anything that can be done by them to help diplomacy would be welcomed by the Islamic republic."
Israel army says striking Hezbollah sites in Tyre area of south Lebanon

Israel's military said Friday it was striking Hezbollah targets in the Tyre area of south Lebanon, as the two countries entered the second day of US-brokered talks in Washington.
"The IDF has begun striking Hezbollah infrastructure sites in the area of Tyre in southern Lebanon," the army said in a statement, hours after issuing evacuation warnings for five towns and villages.
An AFP correspondent saw strikes in the area.
In a separate statement, the military said "a number of explosive drones" had fallen in several areas of northern Israel, with no injuries reported.
The exchanges of fire come despite a truce with Lebanon intended to halt the fighting.
UAE announces accelerated pipeline construction to bypass Hormuz

The UAE will speed up development of its new oil pipeline to Fujairah, Al Jazeera reported.
Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan led a meeting of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s executive committee, where members reviewed progress on the pipeline that will carry crude from Abu Dhabi to the Gulf of Oman, avoiding the Strait of Hormuz.
The project is expected to begin operations in 2027 and will double the UAE’s oil export capacity through Fujairah in response to global energy demand.
Iran’s FM says US sending ‘contradictory messages’

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has blamed what he calls “contradictory messages” from US for complicating negotiations.
Araghchi said Iran is not to blame for disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, and that Tehran did not initiate the war and is only defending itself, Al Jazeera reported, quoting Iran’s IRIB broadcaster.
Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s stance that the strait remains accessible to vessels from “friendly countries” that coordinate with Iranian authorities, while ships belonging to Iran’s “enemies” are barred from passage.
Palestinian Authority says teen killed by Israeli forces in West Bank

The Palestinian Authority said Friday that a 15-year-old was killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, while the Israeli army said he had been throwing stones at Israeli cars on a road.
The authority's health ministry said it had been informed of the killing of Fahd Zidan Oweis.
He was "shot dead by the (Israeli) forces at dawn today in the town of Al-Lubban al-Sharqiyya in the Nablus governorate. His body has been withheld," it said.
The Israeli army told AFP that during a counterterror operation in the area it "eliminated a masked terrorist" who had "hurled rocks towards Israeli vehicles on a central road, endangering lives".
Violence has increased in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza in Oct. 2023.
According to an AFP tally based on Palestinian health ministry figures, Israeli troops or settlers have killed at least 1,072 Palestinians in the West Bank since the war began.
US State Department offers up to $15M for information on IRGC financial networks

"In light of the terrorist Hezbollah's violation of the ceasefire agreement, the Defence Army is compelled to act against it forcefully," the military's Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee posted on X, listing five villages near the city of Tyre, on the south Lebanon coast.
"For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately and stay away from the villages and towns by a distance of no less than 1,000 metres," he added.
China urges lasting Mideast truce, reopening of shipping lanes

China called on Friday for a lasting truce in the Middle East and for shipping lanes to be reopened "as soon as possible", as the strategic Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed during the war with Iran.
US President Donald Trump has discussed Iran during a summit in Beijing with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
When asked if the two presidents had discussed the subject, China's foreign ministry responded on Friday saying it hoped a lasting ceasefire could be reached "as soon as possible" to restore peace and stability in the Middle East.
"Shipping lanes should be reopened as soon as possible in response to the calls of the international community," it added.
"There is no point in continuing this conflict which should not have happened in the first place."
In peacetime, the Hormuz Strait accounts for roughly a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, along with other key commodities.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Thursday that naval forces had allowed a number of Chinese ships to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz since the previous night.
Israel says soldier killed in south Lebanon fighting

Israel's military said Friday that one of its soldiers died in combat in southern Lebanon, bringing its losses to 20 personnel since the war began in early March.
Staff Sergeant Negev Dagan, 20, "fell during combat in southern Lebanon", the military said, without providing additional information.
Since the war began, 19 Israeli soldiers and one civilian contractor have been killed.

Iran's football federation chief said on Thursday that no visas had yet been issued for the national team to participate in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, state media reported.
