US President Donald Trump said Thursday he hopes militant group Hezbollah "acts nicely and well" during the 10-day ceasefire reached just hours earlier between Lebanon and Israel.
"I hope Hezbollah acts nicely and well during this important period of time," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform as he arrived for a speech in Las Vegas. "It will be (a) GREAT moment for them if they do. No more killing. Must finally have PEACE!"
IMF warns of war's human impact far from Middle East

IMF economists warned that the war in Iran could have “very, certainly severe” consequences far outside the region — especially for energy-importing countries.
"Oil-impacted importers, particularly non-resource-rich and fragile states, face deteriorating trade balances, rising living costs and limited buffers," warned Abebe Selassie, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director for Africa, at a press conference Thursday.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, commending the role of the United States in facilitating it.

A 10-day ceasefire agreed between Israel and Lebanon took effect on Thursday after US President Donald Trump earlier announced the truce, adding that he hoped to host a historic meeting between the leaders of the two countries in the coming days.
The ceasefire officially took effect at midnight local time in Israel and Lebanon (2100 GMT). Israel has been fighting militant group Hezbollah since it launched rocket attacks in support of Iran last month.
Hezbollah has not officially said if it will recognise the ceasefire but one of its lawmakers told AFP on Thursday that the group would respect it if Israeli attacks on its militants stopped.

The Israeli military carried out two strikes against a key bridge in the south of Lebanon on Thursday, destroying it, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

US Senate rejects Sanders' resolutions to block arms sales to Israel

The US Senate rejected two resolutions Wednesday introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders to block nearly $500 million in arms sales to Israel,
according to Anadolu Agency.
By a vote of 40-59, the Senate did not agree to the motion to discharge SJ Res. 32 to prohibit the $295 million sale of armored bulldozers.
A second resolution -- SJ Res. 138 to block the $151.8 million sale of 1,000-pound bombs -- was also rejected by a vote of 36-63.
In his address on the Senate floor before the vote, Sanders said the American people do not want the US to continue spending billions of dollars in support of "illegal, horrific and expansionist war policies" of Israel.
"More than 80% of Democratic caucus stood with American people, voted to block US military aid to Netanyahu," Sanders said.

Australia secures extra 100M liters of diesel

Iran arrested four suspected Israeli spies, state media reported on Thursday.
It came as US officials discuss possible peace talks with Iran after US-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28 engulfed the Middle East in war.
"The four agents linked to the Mossad were apprehended in Gilan governorate" in northern Iran, IRNA reported, citing a statement from Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
The Mossad is Israel's foreign intelligence agency.
"The arrestees had provided Mossad intelligence officers with images and locations of some sensitive and critical military and security sites via the internet", it said.
The suspects have been handed over to judicial authorities, the report added.
Amnesty official calls for immediate end to military cooperation with Israel

Amnesty International’s senior director for research, advocacy, policy, and campaigns, Erika Guevara Rosas, said that “Israel continues to defy international law” through a series of systematic violations across the region, Al Jazeera reported.

US rejected Russian proposal to take all of Iran’s enriched uranium, says Kremlin

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, has said that the United States rejected its proposal that Russia take up all of Iran’s enriched uranium out of the country in its bid to help resolve the hostilities in the Middle East, Al Jazeera reported.
Russia first proposed last June that it take control of Iran’s uranium stock, but no action was taken. According to Reuters, Russia issued the proposal again this week.

FIFA chief says ‘Iranian team coming for sure’ to play in US

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reports that Iran will conduct a formal evaluation to determine whether it will participate in the next round of negotiations with the United States after a scheduled high-level meeting between Iranian officials and a Pakistani delegation led by Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir on Thursday, Al Jazeera reported.

The military adviser to Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that Iran would sink American ships in the Strait of Hormuz if the United States decided to "police" the key shipping bottleneck.
The US is imposing a military blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after Iran blocked shipping for over six weeks of war in a conflict which is on hold as a fragile two-week ceasefire remains in place.
"Mr Trump wants to become the police of the Strait of Hormuz. Is this really your job? Is this the job of a powerful army like the US?" Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander-in-chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards who was named as a military adviser by Khamenei last month, told state TV.
"These ships of yours will be sunk by our first missiles and have created a great danger for the US military. They can definitely be exposed to our missiles, and we can destroy them," Rezaei, wearing his military uniform, told the state broadcaster.
