Vance says Israeli PM has 'gotten some things wrong'
Published: June 10, 2026 | 21:44 GMT | by AFP
US Vice President JD Vance acknowledged differences with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview excerpt released, saying the Israeli leader had "gotten some things wrong" in the Middle East war.
Vance emphasized that Israel is a close partner of the United States, but noted that "sometimes, we have interests that are perfectly aligned and sometimes, we have interests that are misaligned," according to a clip posted on X by CBS News.
"What I've seen with the prime minister is that he aggressively asserts the interests of his country," Vance said in the interview, which is to be broadcast in full on Sunday. "Sometimes that means we're on the same page, and sometimes it means that we're not."
"They've been a great partner in a lot of ways, but we also have to focus on what is in America's best interest, and where that diverges, we — unfortunately for the Israelis — have to choose the side of the American people," said Vance.
Asked if Netanyahu had made mistakes in how he has worked with Washington on Iran, the vice president said "he's certainly gotten some things wrong," but declined to specify what they were.
"I think that those conversations sometimes are better left in private," Vance said.

Three Indian crew members were reported missing after a vessel was attacked off Oman, India said Wednesday, before the US military announced it had fired on a tanker attempting to breach its blockade of Iran.
In a statement, the Indian foreign ministry condemned the attack on the vessel, the Settebello, saying, "Of the 24 Indian crew onboard, 21 Indians have been rescued thus far and three Indians are reportedly missing."
"Attacks on shipping in the region are deeply worrisome and a direct result of the ongoing conflict in the region. We reiterate our call for immediate de-escalation," it added.
Later, the United States military said one of its warplanes had fired on the tanker in the Gulf of Oman, disabling the vessel as it attempted to transport oil from Iran.
US Central Command said in a post on X, identifying the Palau-flagged Settebello, that the "crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces."

"Last month, I directed our Great U.S. Military to execute a secret mission to support Oil Tankers and other Commercial Ships through the Straight of Hormuz," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, claiming the US "controls" the strait.
"Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 MILLION Barrels of Oil making its way through," he said, adding that more than 200 commercial ships had gone through.

Trump warns of further US strikes
Published: June 10, 2026 | 17:20 GMT | by Web Desk
US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that an agreement with Iran had effectively been negotiated but warned that Washington was prepared to launch additional military action unless Tehran formally accepts the deal.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said Iran had already agreed to one of Washington’s core demands.
“They have agreed to not having a nuclear weapon. All they have to do is sign the paper,” he said, while adding that “we’ll see what happens with the deal.”
The remarks came amid renewed military tensions between the two sides following exchanges of strikes around the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump signaled that the United States was prepared to escalate pressure on Tehran, saying: “We’re going to be attacking them very hard” and later adding that Washington was “going to hit them again hard today.”
At the same time, Trump declined to discuss potential future military targets.
“Not going to say whether [we are] going to knock out bridges, power plants,” he told reporters when asked about possible next steps if negotiations fail.
Despite the sharp rhetoric, Trump maintained that Washington remains focused on securing an agreement.
“We want a deal that’s meaningful and works,” he said, urging Tehran to finalize the proposed arrangement. “They should sign the deal.”

The announcement follows US strikes on Iranian targets in response to the downing of an American Apache helicopter.
Trump said Tuesday that the Apache helicopter was downed by Iran during a patrol over the Strait of Hormuz.
"I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz," Trump said on Truth Social.
Before this week's developments, Trump had said peace talks with Iran were in their final stage, with a deal possible within days.

An Israeli strike hit a car in the center of the southern Lebanese city of Sidon on Wednesday, state media reported, as Israel persisted with its attacks across the country's south.
An AFP correspondent heard an explosion in the area before seeing a car burning as rescuers and firefighters headed to the scene. The correspondent saw rescuers pull two people from the targeted vehicle.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported "an enemy strike on a car" in the city.
The largest city in southern Lebanon, Sidon was relatively spared from the major Israeli strikes that have pummelled much of the country's south and east since Israel started its bombardment of the country on March 2.
The city, home to the largest Palestinian camp in the country, also shelters a large number of people displaced by the current war.
The last time it was targeted was on May 28, when an Israeli strike on a building killed five people according to the Lebanese health ministry.

Stocks drop ahead of key US inflation data
Published: June 10, 2026 | 11:27 GMT | by AFP
Stock markets fell on Wednesday as fresh strikes in the Middle East and a tech sell-off weighed on sentiment ahead of closely watched US inflation data.
Technology shares led declines across Asia as investors weighed lofty valuations and concerns that persistent inflation could prompt the US Federal Reserve to hike interest rates.
European equities followed Asia lower, with London, Paris and Frankfurt all dropping.
Oil prices were little changed, reacting mildly to US and Iranian forces exchanging fire, just hours after President Donald Trump said a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz was close.
"The oil market is trading on hope that a resolution can be found, and on a loosening of oil supply," said Kathleen Brooks, research director at trading group XTB.
Israel is carrying out 'ethnic cleansing' of West Bank Bedouins: Amnesty International
Published: June 10, 2026 | 10:33 GMT | by AFP
Amnesty International stated on Wednesday that Israel was conducting an "ethnic cleansing" campaign against Bedouin and herding communities in the occupied West Bank, saying the measures were designed to accelerate the annexation of the Palestinian territory.
A new report by the rights group found that these rural Palestinian communities are bearing the brunt of Israeli settler violence and forced displacement. "Israeli authorities are accelerating annexation through a state-driven campaign of ethnic cleansing targeting Palestinian Bedouin and herding communities" of the West Bank, said the report released on Wednesday.
Amnesty said its research showed that 27 Bedouin and herding communities comprising hundreds of Palestinians were forcibly displaced between 2023 and 2025 or were at risk of displacement in the West Bank's Area C, which encompasses 60% of the territory and is under Israeli control. The organization stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, one of Israel's most right-wing to date, was catering to the settler movement's religious nationalist agenda.
"It has accelerated settlement expansion and land grabs, increased financial and logistical support to settlements, and it has armed settlers, thereby enabling a brutal state-sanctioned campaign of settler violence," the report said.
Water cut off for thousands of Iranians after US strikes: State media
Published: June 10, 2026 | 10:16 GMT | by AFP
Thousands of Iranians in the southern port town of Sirik have lost access to drinking water after US strikes hit two reservoirs in the area, Iranian state media said Wednesday.
The United States carried out strikes on the southern cities of Jask and Sirik and on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes damaged two reservoirs supplying the Bemani and Kouhestak areas of Sirik town.
“Following this attack, 20,000 residents of the region have lost access to safe drinking water, and with temperatures ranging between 45 C and 50 C, conditions have become extremely difficult and critical for local inhabitants," Iran's state television quoted local water company officials as saying.
"The destruction of these reservoirs has created a major problem for the region's water supply network," it said. The state media noted the area had insufficient groundwater to replace the damaged reservoirs.
Efforts were underway to find alternatives for villages affected in the area, according to Abdolhamid Hamzehpour, a senior water company official in the southern province of Hormozgan.
